And it explores how the conflicts of 1808 to 1820 led to political independence in 1821. |

Este ensayo explora la interacción de los retos políticos que iniciaron con la ocupación napoleónica de España y el surgimiento del liberalismo de Cádiz, las insurgencias populares que se desarrollaron en regiones clave de la Nueva España en 1810, y la década de conflicto que desembocó en la independencia de México. También examina la forma en que los debates transatlánticos en torno de la soberanía condujeron a las insurgencias políticas y populares en la Nueva España. De igual forma, busca entender la presencia y ausencia de insurgencias populares a partir de 1810 en las regiones clave, desde el valle de México hasta el Bajío. Al mismo tiempo, examina la receptividad de las comunidades rurales a las aperturas liberales de Cádiz en 1812, sobre todo en lo referente a los nuevos derechos municipales y derechos al voto en las elecciones locales, provinciales y transatlánticas, en un contexto de insurgencias políticas y populares. Por último, explora la forma en que los conflictos de 1808-1820 llevaron a la independencia política en 1821.
