| description | This paper seeks to study the commerce of books between Cadiz and Veracruz during a time of commercial reactivation between Spain and its colonies, including the last years of the monopoly established in Cadiz (Carrera de Indias). The author deals with the central characteristics of the main research source on this issue: the Registros de Navíos de Ida a la Nueva España (record books of ships departing towards New Spain), kept in the Archivo General de Indias in Seville. She also mentions the volume of book exportations, tracks down the main booksellers —on both sides of the Atlantic— and examines their distribution networks. This work contributes to the study of the intellectual influences received by New Spain through books. |

El propósito del artículo es estudiar el comercio de libros entre el puerto gaditano y el veracruzano en un periodo que corresponde a una reactivación mercantil entre España y sus colonias, así como a los últimos años del monopolio establecido en Cádiz (Carrera de indias). Se abordan las características principales de la fuente principal utilizada: los Registros de Navíos de ida a la Nueva España, localizados en el Archivo General de Indias, de Sevilla. También se da a conocer el volumen de las exportaciones de libros, y se examina a los principales comerciantes —que se encuentran en ambos lados del Atlántico—, y sus redes de distribución. Lo anterior permitirá contribuir al estudio de las influencias ilustradas que, a través del libro, recibió la sociedad novohispana.
