| Resumo: | This paper seeks to study the commerce of books between Cadiz and Veracruz during a time of commercial reactivation between Spain and its colonies, including the last years of the monopoly established in Cadiz (Carrera de Indias). The author deals with the central characteristics of the main research source on this issue: the Registros de Navíos de Ida a la Nueva España (record books of ships departing towards New Spain), kept in the Archivo General de Indias in Seville. She also mentions the volume of book exportations, tracks down the main booksellers —on both sides of the Atlantic— and examines their distribution networks. This work contributes to the study of the intellectual influences received by New Spain through books. |
