| description | The new mestizo tradition in Mexican architectural historiography was invented after the 1930's by sublimating the racist character ever-present in the development of the philosophical, aesthetical, and scientific structures of modern Mexican architectural thought. In the face of the monopoly exerted by the State's cultural ideology on the imaginaries of late-nineteenth-century architectural historiography, still expressed in taxonomies such as “indian expressionism” or “Creole expressionism”, Spanish traits become at once national and foreign, Mexican and anti- Mexican, traditional and opposed to tradition modernity and antiquity, universality and locality. This work desconstructs turn-of-the-century arguments by analyzing the continuity of Hispanic traits in the post-revolutionary invention of an old mestizo tradition. |

La invención de una nueva tradición mestiza en la historiografía arquitectónica mexicana posterior a los años treinta, se construye sublimando el carácter racista continuamente presente en el desarrollo de las estructuras filosófica, estética y científica del pensamiento arquitectónico moderno mexicano. Frente al monopolio de una ideología cultural de Estado en los imaginarios de la historiografía arquitectónica finisecular, que aún se expresa a partir de taxonomías como “expresionismo indigenista”, “expresionismo criollista”, y de que lo español es a la vez lo propio y la otredad, mexicanidad y antimexicanismo, tradición y antitradición, modernidad y antigüedad, universalidad y localidad, en este texto se deconstruye el argumento finisecular analizando la continuidad del hispanismo en la invención posrevolucionaria de una vieja tradición mestiza.
