| description | As one of the local authorities that passed from the Porfiriato to the Revolution, Esteban Cantú left a record of his period in Baja California in several public works, but also in a series of dark legends regarding his character. Contradictions around him are part of an idea, still incomplete, about political bosses turned into caciques, so common in Northern Mexico. By examining Cantu's political and military trajectory, this work seeks to offer, from a human perspetive, a political portrait of the Northern frontier. Cantú's political and military career can best be understood in the context of his time, by examining not only the yearsduring which he held political control over the region, but also his life before and after this period. |

Integrante del grupo de gobernantes locales que transitaron del porfiriato a la Revolución, Esteban Cantú dejó constancia de su paso por Baja California gracias a las obras públicas, pero también a una serie de leyendas negras sobre él. Las contradicciones en torno de su figura forman parte de una visión, aún incompleta, de los jefes políticos que, convertidos en auténticos caciques, proliferaron en el norte del país. Al examinar las trayectorias política y militar del individuo se pretende presentar, desde la esfera de lo humano, un panorama político de la frontera. La carrera política y militar de Cantú puede ser mejor comprendida y ubicada en el contexto de su época, al revisar no sólo los años en que ejerció el control político de la región, sino también su trayectoria vital antes y después de esa etapa.
