En el ensayo que a continuación se presenta se analiza tanto a los integrantes del congreso constituyente de Sonora (1857-1861), como los debates que sostuvieron en torno al proyecto de constitución estatal que debían seguir los lineamientos marcados por la Constitución Federal de 1857. Asimismo, se relaciona la trayectoria y filiación faccional (en la medida en que las fuentes lo permitieron) de los diputados constituyentes, con las posturas que presentaron durante los debates legislativos que dieron origen a la constitución sonorense de 1861.
