The author also reflects on the impact of the new constitutional order, based on the 1812 Spanish Constitution, on the kingdom's provincial organization El presente artículo busca resaltar, dentro del cúmulo de acontecimientos que se suscitaron entre 1808 y 1814, el papel que tuvieron las ciudades y las villas novohispanas en estos años: se destaca principalmente su actuación durante los meses inmediatos a la abdicación de Fernando VII y sus reclamos para que se les permitiera participar en la elección del representante novohispano en la Junta Central Gubernativa. Finalmente se cuestiona sobre el impacto que el nuevo orden constitucional sustentado en la Constitución española de 1812 tuvo en la organización provincial de este reino.
