| description | During the late nineteenth century, Bishop Eulogio Gillow released a series of documents regarding the case of the “San Francisco Cajonos martyrs,” two Zapotecan Indians who were executed by their community for having denounced an idolatrous ceremony. To date, the Porfirian Bishop's text has been the only source for those who have studied the case. This paper is based on the analysis of a large number of archival materials that, besides completing—and sometimes correcting— the documents analyzed by Gillow, allows us to examine the political and social conflicts suffered by the region at the time. El texto del obispo porfiriano ha constituido, hasta la fecha, la fuente para los que se han ocupado del caso. El presente artículo se basa en el análisis de vasto material de archivo que, además de completar —y algunas veces corregir— los documentos analizados por Gillow, también nos permite analizar los conflictos políticos y sociales que atravesaban la región.
