Description
Summary:During the late nineteenth century, Bishop Eulogio Gillow released a series of documents regarding the case of the “San Francisco Cajonos martyrs,” two Zapotecan Indians who were executed by their community for having denounced an idolatrous ceremony. To date, the Porfirian Bishop's text has been the only source for those who have studied the case. This paper is based on the analysis of a large number of archival materials that, besides completing—and sometimes correcting— the documents analyzed by Gillow, allows us to examine the political and social conflicts suffered by the region at the time.  México; Eulogio Gillow; zapotecos; idolatría; catolicismo; siglo XIX
