| description | After the slow and complex process of expelling the Company of Jesus (1767-1768), many wise-guys passed off as Jesuits, taking advantage of the fervor of New Spain's population. This work analyzes several cases of false priests, in the context of many such attempts of the expelled to return to New Spain, and the context also of the evolution of the diseased Ignatians who remained in the city of Puebla. All of these priests, true and false, produced the feeling in Mexico that the void left by the expelling of the Company was not so great, besides the fact that its devotees remembered them by adoring Jesuit saints and praying for their return. As this work shows, there was always at least one Jesuit during the years of Suppression (1767-1816); although it is a small number, it allows us to understand this intermediate period in a whole new way. |

Tras el lento y complejo proceso de expulsión de la Compañía de Jesús (1767-1768), varios pícaros se hicieron pasar por jesuitas aprovechando el fervor de la población novohispana. El artículo analiza varios casos de falsos padres, contextualizándolos con los diversos intentos de los expulsos por regresar a la Nueva España y con la evolución de los ignacianos enfermos que quedaron recluidos en la ciudad de Puebla. Todos ellos, falsos y verdaderos, dieron la impresión en México de que el vacío dejado por la salida de la Compañía no lo fue tanto, a la vez que sus partidarios siguieron recordándolos mediante el culto a los santos jesuitas y el deseo de su vuelta. Como se señala en el trabajo, siempre hubo al menos un jesuita durante los años de la supresión (1767-1816), número corto, sin duda, pero que permite contemplar este periodo intermedio de una forma novedosa.
