Los trabajos que se han publicado sobre la historia de la energía eléctrica en México abarcan un amplio abanico de temas que proveen información relacionada con aspectos económicos, sociales, políticos, técnicos y hasta ambientales. Este trabajo explora una dirección poco estudiada, la de los sectores educativo y científico. En particular, se hace referencia a los ingenieros mexicanos que, como ingenieros inspectores, intervinieron en la construcción de uno de los sistemas hidroeléctricos más grandes del país y de América Latina, el complejo hidroeléctrico de Necaxa. Abordamos preguntas como ¿cuál era su función?, ¿dónde y qué estudiaron?, ¿había ingenieros electricistas?, ¿cursaron materias de electricidad o hidráulica?, ¿aplicaban estos conocimientos?, ¿formaban parte de una comunidad científica?, ¿dedicaban tiempo a la docencia?
