Description
Résumé:This paper attempts to shed new light on the origins and political organization of the Mayan group called the itzaes. Based on the study of glyphs and colonial  sources in Maya, the author tries to establish for the  itzaes where  they came from  and  when they established themselves in Yucatán, as well as the political organization they imposed in cities like Chichén Itzá and Mayapán. Their return to El Petén at the end of the postclassical period, and the political organization they maintained until the Spanish conquest in 1697, are analyzed. The Spanish conquest implied  the obliteration  of that reign and a new political composition whose study has been neglected until now.
