| description | This article analyzes the introduction in Mexico of the determining paradigms for the constitution of Biology as a science, during the late XIX century and the beginnings of the XX century, emphasizing the contribution of Herrera's work in this process. Firstly it is discussed how several concepts, theories and paradigms were introduced in different countries, considering the involvement of both translation phenomena and circulation of scientific facts. Then the article points out the main participation of Mexican learners in the introduction of the cellular, homeostatic, evolutionary and heredity theory. I highlight the fundamental contribution of Herrera's book Nociones de Biologia (1904) which was the first textbook of Biology in Mexico. This book contains a clear exposition of the theories mentioned above. |

Este artículo aborda la introducción en México de los paradigmas determinantes para la constitución de la biología como ciencia, durante el final del siglo XIX y los inicios del XX, enfatizando la contribución de la obra de Alfonso L. Herrera. Primero se discuten los procesos de introducción de diferentes conceptos, teorías o paradigmas en distintos países y los fenómenos de traducción y “circulación de los hechos científicos” involucrados en ello, para luego centrarse en México, recapitulando las principales aportaciones de sabios mexicanos a la introducción de las teorías: celular, de la homeostasis, de la evolución y de la herencia, resaltando la contribución de Alfonso L. Herrera y de su libro Nociones de biología (1904), primer texto de biología del país, donde se encuentran presentes las teorías antes mencionadas.
