Description
Résumé:In this article, the foreign policy behavior of Chile regarding the hostilities in Gaza and Israel is analyzed –as termed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, referring to the armed violence occurring in Palestine and Israel. Initiated in October 2023 with Hamas’ armed attack, which was deemed terrorist and criminal according to international law, the Israeli government’s response has resulted in 30,534 people being killed in the Gaza Strip (according to data from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, UNRWA), which, also from the perspective of international law, can be classified as genocide. This article presents the background, the stance of President Gabriel Boric Font, and the statements from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrel) and the Ministry of National Defense (Mindef). As a result, an initial equanimity and subsequent defense of international law in favor of Palestine are observed.
