El presidente Andrés Manuel López Obrador ha desarrollado un gobierno que pretende regresar a los orígenes revolucionarios y resolver los problemas sociales. Su política social ha estado basada en el desmantelamiento institucional y, en ocasiones, legal del sistema político y gubernamental, pero no ha sido el único en la historia nacional. Antes que él, lo han hecho Luis Echeverría y Carlos Salinas. Este artículo propone que no se trata solamente de voluntarismo personal, sino de una tradición y necesidad históricas: la construcción de una autoridad central que resuelva los problemas y las recurrentes fallas de los programas económicos que profundizan los desequilibrios sociales.
