| description | This research focuses on the performance of African countries with regard to public health policies in the context of the covid-19 pandemic (2020-2021). The main argument is that the response of African countries to the pandemic and the low number of deaths on the African continent in general made explicit a contradiction in the hegemonic discourse regarding African states’ capacity to act effectively in the face of the threat of the virus. Esta investigación se centró en el desempeño de los países africanos con respecto a las políticas de salud pública en el contexto de la pandemia de covid-19 (2020-2021). El principal argumento es que la respuesta de los países africanos a la pandemia y el bajo número de muertes en el continente africano en general hicieron explícita una contradicción en el discurso hegemónico sobre la capacidad de los Estados africanos para actuar de manera eficiente ante la amenaza del virus. El marco teórico incluye enfoques posestructuralistas y poscoloniales de las relaciones internacionales (ri) y la metodología consistió en el análisis del discurso.
