| description | This article offers a broad perspective on the various occasions in which the prd participated in the presidential elections between 1988 and 2018. Thirty long years in which thanks to a process of political change it was possible to promote a transformation in the electoral and party system in Mexico. These changes, in turn, allowed the prd to be a competitive party and, on more than one occasion, a contender for the presidency. This article also has the purpose of showing the successes and mistakes that this left party committed in the presidential elections where it participated and, also, to exhibit the illegal interventions by the different formal and factual actors with the intention of preventing the prd from reaching the presidency. |

Este artículo ofrece una perspectiva amplia en torno a las diversas ocasiones en que el prd participó en las elecciones presidenciales entre 1988 y 2018. Treinta largos años en los que, gracias a un proceso de cambio político, se logró impulsar una transformación en el sistema electoral y de partidos en México. Estos cambios, a su vez, permitieron que el prd fuera un partido competitivo y, en más de una ocasión, contendiente a la presidencia. Este artículo tiene además el propósito de mostrar los aciertos y errores que este partido de izquierda cometió en los comicios presidenciales en los que participó y, también, exhibir las intervenciones ilegales de los distintos actores formales y fácticos con la intención de impedirle al prd llegar a la presidencia.
