| description | This paper examines the participation of the Mexico administration of 2012-2018 in the negotiations on international cooperation and coordination to tackle climate change within the context of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It also makes reference to the involvement of sub-state and non-state actors, such as businesses and non-governmental organizations in this sector. At the same time, it refers to the positions and coalitions that emerge on different topics between countries from different regions, according to their levels of development and interests and capacities, while the active role of the Foreign Ministry in the context of negotiation of complex issues is highlighted, together with challenging situations such as the arrival of Donald Trump to the presidency of the United States and his decision to withdraw his country from the Paris Agreement. This active participation in international negotiations made it possible to ascribe importance to an issue that was not previously considered a priority in the six-year development agenda. |

El presente artículo examina la participación del gobierno de México en el sexenio 2012-2018 en las negociaciones sobre cooperación y coordinación internacional para enfrentar el cambio climático dentro del ámbito de la Convención Marco de las Naciones Unidas para el Cambio Climático (CMNUCC). Se hace referencia también a la participación de actores subestatales y no estatales, como empresas y organizaciones no gubernamentales en ese ámbito. A la par que se refiere las posturas y coaliciones que se dan en distintos temas entre países de distintas regiones, acordes con sus niveles de desarrollo e intereses y capacidades, se destaca el papel activo de la cancillería en contextos de negociación de temas complejos, así como de situaciones desafiantes, tales como la llegada de Donald Trump a la presidencia de Estados Unidos y su decisión de retirar a su país del Acuerdo de París. Esta participación activa en las negociaciones internacionales permitió darle importancia a un tema que no se consideraba prioritario en la agenda de desarrollo del sexenio.
