Ucrania se ha convertido en una región inestable, plagada de conflictos y resentimientos nacionalistas alentados inicialmente desde fuera de sus fronteras. A partir de octubre del 2013, Ucrania se convierte en la prioridad de la política exterior de Rusia y en la razón de un serio enfrentamiento diplomático, comercial y económico con EE.UU. y Europa. Es muy probable que como resultado de su estrategia en Ucrania, Occidente obtenga precisamente lo contrario de lo planificado en relación con Rusia: un fortalecimiento de su liderazgo en el escenario regional y global; una nueva escalada de rearme militar sobre todo en la aviación estratégica y en la defensa aeroespacial y que el nacionalismo ruso gane mayor peso e influencia a nivel nacional y regional.
