| description | Based on results obtained through a qualitative study, this article presents and analyzes the meanings of voluntary abortion for men and their positions on the process of decision facing an unwanted pregnancy/nintended. The analysis took as analytical categories the perspective of sexual and reproductive rights, and studies on masculinity and gender. It was observed that for males the abortion is neither indifferent nor consider alien and it is considered a signifi cant experience in the life of both men and women. It was found that there is a direct relationship between the meanings of voluntary abortion and views about the right to decide. Males and reproductive practices should be incorporated as protagonists in studies on reproduction and reproductive health. |

Basado en resultados obtenidos a través de un estudio de tipo cualitativo, este artículo presenta y analiza los signifi cados que tiene el aborto voluntario para los varones y sus posicionamientos acerca del proceso de decisión frente a un embarazo no deseado/no intencional. El análisis tomó como categorías analíticas la perspectiva de derechos sexuales y reproductivos, y los estudios sobre masculinidad y género. Se pudo observar que para los varones el aborto no resulta ni indiferente ni ajeno y que lo consideran una experiencia signifi cativa tanto en la vida de los hombres como de las mujeres. Se constató que existe una relación directa entre los signifi cados sobre el aborto voluntario y las opiniones acerca del derecho a decidir. Los varones y sus prácticas reproductivas deben ser incorporados como protagonistas en los estudios sobre reproducción y salud reproductiva.
