Descrição
Resumo:This article introduces the dossier "Labor and Workers in Digital Platforms in Latin America," which examines the transformation of work in the region through the emergence of platform capitalism. As a conceptual framework for the twelve studies comprising the dossier, the text analyzes how digital platforms reconfigure labor relations in the Latin American context, characterized by pre-existing high informality and labor precarity. The dossier addresses central themes that cut across the presented research: algorithmic labor management, tensions between autonomy and subordination, new forms of collective organization, and regulatory challenges. The articles cover six countries (Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, and Peru) and include both case studies and comparative analyses, offering a comprehensive view of the phenomenon in the region. The dossier contributes to understanding this distinctive phase of capitalism that requires new analytical frameworks to comprehend its implications in the Latin American context.
