Description
Summary:In this article, I analyze the specific dynamics of individuality formation (socialization, subjectivation, or individuation) and the modes of individuation (collectivist or singularist) in two religiously-oriented therapeutic communities located in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (Argentina). To do so, I draw on the experiences of four former residents. Upon leaving the community, individuals face the complex challenge of re-encountering a set of trials that had been suspended during treatment, or alternatively, confronting these challenges without strong institutional support. This transition is often accompanied by biographical dislocations, meaning a sense of alienation from the world and from the socialization and sociability circles they belonged to prior to entering the therapeutic community.
