| description | The notion of agency has had an indisputable impact on contemporary sociological theory. However, little has been thought about the potential and epistemological limitations of this concept for the strategic action of the subject. This article presents these potentialities and limitations in the perspectives of Pierre Bourdieu and Anthony Giddens, as an increasingly relevant instrument to explain and understand social action and the senses and meanings involved in it. Simultaneously, it shows the importance of this concept to account for the scope of the reflective process in the strategic choice of the subject (individual or collective), who is the one who ultimately produces and reproduces society through its practices. |

La noción de agencia ha tenido un impacto indiscutible en la teoría sociológica contemporánea. Sin embargo, es poco lo que se ha reflexionado acerca de las potencialidades y las limitaciones epistemológicas de este concepto para la acción estratégica del sujeto. Este artículo presenta dichas potencialidades y limitaciones en las perspectivas de Pierre Bourdieu y Anthony Giddens, en tanto instrumento cada vez más relevante para explicar y comprender la acción social y los sentidos y significados implicados en ella. Simultáneamente, muestra la importancia de este concepto para dar cuenta del alcance del proceso reflexivo en la elección estratégica del sujeto (individual o colectivo), que es quien en definitiva produce y reproduce la sociedad por medio de sus prácticas.
