| Résumé: | The twelve authors that collaborate in this book seek to question the assumptions of alterity that the indigenous category usually implies, in relation to data and processes in Mexico. This is achieved by two ways: on the one hand, by highlighting the non-compliance of several of these assumptions (the populations classified as indigenous as essentially communitarian, of oral tradition, parochial and the product of "their own" trajectories) in the light of historical and ethnographic analysis; specifically in relation to: land distribution, educational systems, different scales of political participation. On the other hand, analyzing the production and projection of these assumptions by different fields of knowledge and intervention (Medicine, Genetics, Anthropology and Indigenism).
