| description | The notion of sensitizing concept is an important methatheorical tool to understand the development of sociological knowledge. However, it can contribute even more to metatheorical discussions. The thesis that motivates this study is that the conception of theory behind such discussions limits its potential. The aim of this article is to make explicit such limitation. The argumentative strategy is to present the advantages of a contemporaneous conception of theory. Once we expose the notion of sensitizing concept, we will discuss the phases of development of philosophy of science; two conceptions of scientific concepts; and the basic ideas of structuralist metatheory, of fundamental law of a theory and of testing of such laws. Then we carry out the analysis of the notion of sensitizing concept. The conclusion is that, using as a background structuralist metatheory, the notion of sensitizing concept is enhanced. |

Resumen: La noción de concepto sensibilizador constituye una importante herramienta metateórica para entender el desarrollo del conocimiento sociológico. Empero puede aportar aún más a las discusiones metateóricas. La tesis que motiva este estudio es que la concepción de teoría que sirve de trasfondo para dichas discusiones limita su potencial. El objetivo del artículo es explicitar dicha limitación. La estrategia argumentativa será presentar las ventajas de adoptar una concepción contemporánea de teoría. Una vez expuesta la noción de concepto sensibilizador, serán presentadas las fases de desarrollo de la filosofía de la ciencia; dos concepciones de conceptos científicos, y las ideas básicas de la metateoría estructuralista, de ley fundamental de una teoría y de contrastación de dichas leyes. A partir de esto se realiza el análisis de la noción de concepto sensibilizador. Se concluye que, teniendo por trasfondo la metateoría estructuralista, la noción de concepto sensibilizador puede ser potencializada.
