| description | This article provides a critique of the common representation of lynchings as a spasmodic and mechanical vision of the actions of popular sectors in the face of insecurity. Not only does this representation establish analytical and explanatory limits for understanding, but, in addition, it reproduces colonial representations of popular subjects and is sustained by making invisible alternative forms of popular responses (violent and non-violent). Recent studies in Latin America have criticized and dismantled various elements of this mechanical representation of lynchings, thereby allowing a more complex understanding of. Nevertheless, it is still possible to identify a common weakness in these analyses: the lack of concern for the specificity of different logics of violence grouped under the term lynching. With this in mind, this paper considers the analytical applicability of the concept of the moral economy of violence in exploring problem. |

Nevertheless, it is still possible to identify a common weakness in these analyses: the lack of concern for the specificity of different logics of violence grouped under the term lynching. With this in mind, this paper considers the analytical applicability of the concept of the moral economy of violence in exploring problem. En este artículo presento una crítica a la representación común de los linchamientos que conforma una visión espasmódica, mecánica, de la acción de los sectores populares frente a la inseguridad. Esta imagen establece distintos límites analíticos y explicativos para la comprensión. Además, se sostiene en la invisibilización de diferentes formas de respuesta popular (violentas y no-violentas) y reproduce una visión colonial sobre los sujetos populares. En distintos análisis recientes en América Latina, diversos elementos que conforman esta representación mecánica de los linchamientos han sido criticados y desmontados para permitirnos así un entendimiento más complejo. No obstante, es posible identificar alguna debilidad común en dichos análisis: la poca preocupación por la especificidad de las diferentes lógicas de la violencia que se agrupan bajo el término de linchamiento. Frente a este problema, me acerco al concepto de economía moral de la violencia y exploro algunas de sus dimensiones y posibilidades de análisis.
