Con base en la metodología propuesta por Dalton (1920) y desarrollada por Atkinson (1970), entre otros, se evalúa si los cambios en la distribución del ingreso en México durante 1984 - 2008 han significado cambios significativos en el bienestar social de la población. Los indicadores de desigualdad se estiman bajo diferentes supuestos sobre la aversión a la desigualdad y la sensibilidad a las transferencias de ingreso entre estratos de la población. Adicionalmente, el ingreso de los hogares se ajusta por el número de niños y la presencia de economías de escala, lo cual permite la comparación de hogares de diferente tamaño.
