| description | This paper presents a methodology to measure the effects of economic liberalization and deregulation on the Mexican economic growth in the long run. The results show that the increase in the Mexican case has been transitory and that there has been a change in the level of growth rather than in the rate. This suggests that technology and labor productivity have not changed substantially, and hence that the growth is explained by the use of idle capacity. Este ensayo presenta una metodología para medir los efectos de la liberalización y desregulación económicas sobre el crecimiento de largo plazo mexicano. Esta metodología permite determinar si ha habido un cambio permanente en la tasa de crecimiento. Los resultados obtenidos indican que el aumento en el crecimiento de México ha sido de carácter transitorio y que ha habido un cambio de nivel mas no de tasa. Lo anterior sugiere que la tecnología y la productividad del trabajo no han variado sustancialmente y que, por tanto, el crecimiento se explica por la utilización de capacidad instalada ociosa. Sin embargo, como los cambios tecnológicos tardan en aflorar, estos resultados deben ser considerados como preliminares.
