El modelo que a continuación se presenta tiene como objetivo analizar las condiciones de crecimiento y la ruta de acumulación de capital en un contexto de cambio técnico endógeno, pero con ahorro exógeno. Se plantea la existencia de un mundo con dos países: uno innovador y otro imitador, vinculados exclusivamente por un mercado mundial de tecnología, y se hace abstracción del mercado mundial de bienes. En cada país existen dos sectores: uno productor de bienes finales y otro que realiza actividades de Investigación y Desarrollo. En buena medida, el trabajo se basa en los modelos de Romer (1990), y Rivera Bátiz-Romer (1991).
