En referencia a una clase amplia de juegos, se ilustra mediante ejemplos muy sencillos, la facilidad con la que factores y circunstancias muy diversos pueden distorsionar los incentivos aunque: los investigadores compartan un mismo punto de viste epistémico; se publiquen todos los resultados obtenidos; éstos no presenten solapamientos y se evalúen sin aplicar ningún baremo; y las recompensas se asignen de acuerdo con el orden derivado de la valía epistémica relativa de las aportaciones de cada investigador.
