This study agrees with the first part of the proposal, nevertheless, argues that elements exist such as economies of agglomeration, vertical linkages, and other advantages of territories that can compensate the proximity with North America. The theoretical analysis is based on the “new economic geography” and the empirical one in an econometric model. |

Se analizan teórica y empíricamente los efectos de la apertura comercial sobre la reestructuración regional de la manufactura en México. Diversos estudios argumentan que la economía cerrada indujo a una distribución polarizada y que la apertura representa fuerzas opuestas que favorecen la relocalización hacia el norte. Este estudio coincide con la primera parte de la proposición, sin embargo, argumenta que existen elementos tales como economías de aglomeración, vínculos verticales y otras ventajas de los territorios que pueden compensar la cercanía con Norteamérica. El análisis teórico se basa en la “nueva geografía económica” y el empírico de un modelo econométrico.
