Data from the Demographic and Health Survey (Enfes) at the national level and the National Survey on Urban Employment (eneu) for the city of Tijuana reveal that, taking into account declared household headship, the biases associated with age and sex make it difficult to identify the person that supports the family. Hence this paper proposes to increase the analytical possibilities of household survey data by adding questions regarding the resources actually provided for the family by each member of the household. |

En este trabajo se señalan algunos de los elementos asociados a la emergencia de hogares con jefatura femenina y se documentan algunas de las limitaciones y los alcances conceptuales de la jefatura declarada de hogar, para la identificación de la base económica de las unidades domésticas, especialmente cuando ésta recae sobre una mujer. Los datos de la Encuesta Nacional sobre Fecundidad y Salud (Enfes) y de la Encuesta Nacional de Empleo Urbano (ENEU) para la ciudad de Tijuana revelan que los sesgos asociados a la edad y al género hacen difícil identificar, a partir de la jefatura declarada de hogar, a la persona que se hace responsable de la manutención económica de la familia. Por esta razón, se propone ampliar las posibilidades de análisis que ofrecen los datos de las encuestas de hogares, añadiendo preguntas acerca de los ingresos efectivamente obtenidos y aportados por los diferentes miembros del hogar a la manutención económica de la familia.
