| description | During the last few decades migration in Central Mexico has undergone important changes. Not only have populations been moving increasingly towards the periphery and decreasingly towards the center, but those originally living in the center are also moving to the immediate periphery. This behavior allows us to claim that Central Mexico is undergoing a process of deconcentration or suburbanization. This study describes the way in which such a process has developed and the situation of geographical entities within that process. Analysis of the new regional configuration takes into account demographic growth and the direction and characteristics of migration in the Mexico City Metropolitan Area and its surrounding states during the last twenty years. |

En los últimos años, la tendencia de la migración en el centro de la República Mexicana ha presentado variaciones importantes. Se ha reducido la movilidad de la población hacia el centro y ha aumentado hacia la periferia, al mismo tiempo que se registra un desplazamiento de la población que antes vivía en el centro hacia la periferia inmediata. Tal comportamiento permite decir que en la región central de México se ha producido el fenómeno denominado como proceso de desconcentración o de suburbanización. El interés de este trabajo es mostrar cómo se ha desarrollado este proceso, así como la fase en la que se encuentran, dentro de tal proceso, los diferentes ámbitos geográficos considerados. La nueva configuración de esta región se analiza a partir del crecimiento demográfico y de la dirección y características de los movimientos migratorios que han tenido lugar los últimos veinte años en la Zona Metropolitana de la Ciudad de México (ZMCM) y las entidades federativas que la rodean.
