| Sumario: | Location theory, like any economic theory, should apply everywhere, irrespective of national or cultural distinctions. However, in light of the surge of mega-cities and exploding urban growth in developing nations, one may well ask whether the old theories still hold. Does economic activity now locate according to different rules in developing nations? In search of an answer, the authors first undertake an econometric analysis of the relationship between urbanization, urban size and development for 96 nations, followed by a comparative analysis of the location of employment, by economic sector, for Mexico and Canada. |
