description This study examines the influence of family structure on the rate of acceptance of perinatal health services. Analysis is conducted at both the individual and household levels. The information used in the study is based on a questionnaire regarding family and household. The questionnaire was applied to a group of women of child-bearing age participating in a preventive program oriented toward the study of characteristics of the perinatal process.Women belonging to non-nuclear type households and in the initial phases of their reproductive cycles were more likely to accept the service offered. This result was equally true for this group in cases where the education or employment level of the head of household was relatively low. In cases where respondents were pregnant, differences reflected by type of household were minimized. The study's observations indicate that household structure is a selective element. The structure of non-nuclear households in the study area, particularly those of low socioeconomic standing, favors utilization of perinatal care with a preventive focus.

The structure of non-nuclear households in the study area, particularly those of low socioeconomic standing, favors utilization of perinatal care with a preventive focus.
