| description | This article presents a brief discussion of the primary aspects associated with aging of the Cuban population, from a demographic, socioeconomic and political perspective.The first issue discussed in the article is how international immigration has contributed to the aging process of the country's population, and the possible causes of this immigration.The author briefly analyzes the evolution of demographic transitions in Cuba. At the same time, he points out the efforts that the country is making to deal with an accelerated increase in the sixties-plus population and the solutions that have been found to meet the challenge, as well as methodological aspects related to the issue of aging. It is important to note that the elderly currently constitute 12% of the Cuban population. |

En este trabajo se aborda brevemente la discusión de los principales aspectos asociados con el envejecimiento de la población en Cuba, tanto desde el punto de vista demográfico, como socioeconómico y político.En primer término se menciona el papel jugado por la inmigración internacional, que contribuyó en cierta medida a alcanzar un envejecimiento por la cúspide. Asimismo, se señalan las posibles causas que motivaron dicha inmigración.Se analiza brevemente la evolución de la transición demográfica en el país. Igualmente, se señalan los esfuerzos que realiza el país para enfrentar el acelerado crecimiento de la población de 60 años y más, y las soluciones a dicho reto. Se discuten, a su vez, algunos aspectos metodológicos vinculados al tratamiento del envejecimiento de la población. Téngase presente que la proporción de personas de ese segmento de edades ya alcanza 12% actualmente.
