Based mainly on the approaches taken by epidemiological and social history research and on various documentary sources, this article presents an analysis of the two epidemics that devastated Mexico City, one in 1833 and the other between 1848 and 1850. In addition, it delves into all the political, economic, and social factors that had bearing on the spread and impact of the disease. |
