| Summary: | Doe the northern border zone of Mexico have demographic characteristic distinguishing if from the rest of the country? The first problem posed is to define what is to be considered as the border zone and then, to find data related to the phenomenon to be studied in selected territorial units.This article is limited to an analysis of some characteristics of nuptiality in the municipalities in the northern border zone of Mexico, based on the classification of the population by age and sex by marital status and sex contained in the 1980 Census. A brief analysis of the population by municipality and size of locality allows us to observe that these are concentrated in only a few urban areas. In addition, a comparison of the actual numbers of men and women of marriageable age through indices of masculinity and relations of feminity, shows the surplus of women existing in this age group.The distribution of the population aged 12 and over according to their marital status, with no age distinctions made, greatly limits the possible indicators for estimation: nevertheless, it is possible to conclude that the proportion of single people is greater than in the rest of the country, as well as thet of individuals in civil marriages and interrupted union (women).Nuptiality in the border zone is not only distinguished from that of the country as a whole, but also in relation to the states in which the municipalities comprising it are located.
