Special attention is paid to documenting those branches of the Mexican economic structure that have afforded the greatest space for the existence of non- agricultural non-wage labor, as well as to the evolution undergone, in this sense, by the different regions in Mexico. |

El objetivo de este artículo, es en primer lugar, revisar y evaluar de manera sucinta diversos esfuerzos teóricos que intentan dar cuenta de la presencia y significado del trabajo no asalariado en la economía urbana de países no desarrollados.En segundo lugar, la autora ofrece un panorama general de la evolución del trabajo no asalariado en la economía no agrícola en México en el mediano plazo (1950-1980), con el fin de despertar interés por asociar su permanencia, desaparición o posible ampliación con los ritmos que han caracterizado al desarrollo del país en este plazo. Se documenta especialmente las ramas de la estructura económica mexicana que han proveído mayor espacio para la existencia del trabajo no asalariado no agrícola, así como la evolución seguida en este sentido por las distintas regiones que conforman la República Mexicana.
