Description
Résumé:The evolution of fertility in Mexico has been the object of numerous research efforts. The interest in analyzing this phenomenon derives both from the high levels reached and the lag in its reduction as compared to other Latin American countries. The aim of this article is to assess the development of fertility in order to determine points of change and periods of rising and declining fertility in the trends to be observed in Mexico, establishing spatial (regional and sectoral) distinctions. In addition, an attempt is made to form a profile of the women who initiated a change toward low fertility. This study is part of a wider project which has given rise to other publications as well.
