Description
Résumé:The purpose of this article is to assess Acapulco's development process, tourist activity, and environment. To that effect, the analysis has been broken down into three periods, each of which is associated with a determinant of the structure of resort areas: urban soil, urban structure, and pollution. The conclusion is reached that a lack of urban and environmental foresight, as well as the rapid growth of tourism, have affected the economy, the environment, and the quality of life. In his closing statements, the author proposes that a series of corrective measures be applied; he underlines the importance of carrying out preventive urban and environmental planning, and of ensuring suitable administration of natural resources in resort areas.
