As a result of this, the distribution and the social growth of the population in this state changed.This paper analyses the general characteristics of these changes, particularity those related to migration. This analysis is based, fundamentally, on the Socio-demographic Survey of the state of Tabasco, effected by the Consejo Nacional de Población and the government of Tabasco in 1980. Generally speaking, the most important migratory movements which took place in this state during the oil boom were from one municipality to another and not from other states to Tabasco, as was thought at first. These migratory flows which originated basically in the "rancherías" (settlements of less than 2 500 inhabitants), are not detected by population census, and this is the reason why the 1980 census does not provide any information on the great social growth of the population of Tabasco.This paper also describes the direction of the migratory flows and provides information about the sex of the migrants and about their insertion within the sphere of employment. |

En los inicios de la década de los setenta el estado de Tabasco fue objeto de fuertes inversiones económicas cuya finalidad era la exploración y comercialización de las reservas petroleras recién descubiertas. Como consecuencia de esto, se presentaron cambios en la distribución y en el crecimiento social de la población en el interior de la entidad.En este trabajo se analizan las características generales de esos cambios, particularmente las que se refieren a la migración. El análisis está basado, fundamentalmente, enla Encuesta Sociodemográficadel Estado de Tabasco, levantada por el Consejo Nacional de Población y el gobierno de Tabasco en 1980. En términos generales, puede decirse que los movimientos migratorios más significativos que se produjeron en la entidad en el periodo petrolero fueron los de carácter intramunicipal, y no los provenientes de otras entidades del país, como parecía. Estos flujos migratorios, que fundamentalmente se originaron en las rancherías (localidades de menos de 2 500 habitantes), no son detectados por los censos de población, razón por la cual el censo de 1980 no da cuenta de un fuerte crecimiento social de la población de Tabasco.En este trabajo se describe también la dirección de los flujos migratorios y las características de sexo e inserción de los migrantes en la estructura ocupacional.
