Résumé:The purpose of this article is to reflect upon the essential elements comprising the relations between state and society. A general overview of the Mexican state is provided and the nature of its relations with the society is analyzed. It is maintained that the politization of the organizations of earthquaked victims is a result of the type of response the goverment has offered to their demands. The general conclusion reached is that the earthquakes and the process of reconstruction made evident the crisis existing in mechanisms linking government and society.
