| description | The main purpose of the article is to consider some of the characteristics of the phenomena of centralization and urban concentration based on data from various information sources on the change process that has taken place in one region in western Mexico. Within the specific framework of regional historical development, the author explores the relationship between the objectives of some of the de facto policies pursued by national development and the local and regional circumstances that have facilitated certain changes -sometimes negative, sometimes positive - in the well-being of the so-called "Bajio zamorano". The paper suggests how a medium-sized city like Zamora has become the center around which a series of economic, social and political relationships of the surrounding area have been organized. Al the same time, the city has, served as a mediator between the national and local levels. The data presented serves a larger purpose than simply to characterize the nation's course as one of "centralization" or "concentration". The point to the multiple meaning of the different effects that have resulted from the dynamics of the regional changes that have occurred so far this century. |

El propósito central del artículo es reflexionar sobre algunas de las características de los fenómenos de centralización y de concentración urbana a partir de datos procedentes de variadas fuentes de información referidos a los procesos de cambio que han tenido lugar en una región del occidente de México. Tomando en cuenta el marco concreto del desarrollo histórico regional, se examina la relación entre los objetivos de algunas de las políticas que de facto ha seguido el desarrollo nacional, y las circunstancias locales y regionales que han facilitado ciertos cambios, a veces en detrimento, a veces en favor del bienestar del llamado “Bajío zamorano”. El trabajo sugiere cómo una ciudad de tamaño medio como Zamora ha llegado a ser el ámbito desde el cual se ha ido organizando el conjunto de relaciones económicas, sociales y políticas de la región inmediata, a la vez que ha servido también como centro de intermediación entre los niveles nacional y local. El conjunto de datos presentados puede servir, más que para calificar simplemente el sentido de la trayectoria nacional como “centralizadora” o “concentradora”, para reflexionar sobre el sentido múltiple de los variados efectos que han seguido a la dinámica de cambio regional durante lo que va de este siglo.
