| description | Sustainable urban management must be addressed in planning exercises carried out on the territories. This article is part of the development of an investigation that was formulated with the objective of determining the obstacles that hinder the process of sustainable urban management in a Colombian territory: El Tambo, Nariño. For this, a documentary analysis is made from the institutionality, from the physical space through cartography and a collection of information on site from the implementation of social cartography. It is identified that the main factors that hinder urban management are related from three dimensions: physical-spatial, territorial and social. It is concluded that the municipality presents difficulties in the planning and ordering of its territory related to inadequate urban practices, with deficiencies in control, regulatory gaps, rapid urban growth and a late administrative reaction, as well as a predominance of private interests over the collectives. All this makes territorial management, with a perspective of sustainable development, difficult. |

La gestión urbana sostenible debe abordarse en los ejercicios de planificación que se efectúan sobre los territorios. El presente artículo es parte del desarrollo de una investigación que se formuló con el objetivo de determinar los obstáculos que dificultan el proceso de gestión urbana sostenible en un territorio colombiano: El Tambo, Nariño. Para ello, se realizó un análisis documental desde la institucionalidad, desde lo físico-espacial por medio de la cartografía y una recolección de información en sitio, a partir de la implementación de cartografía social. Se identificó que los principales factores que obstaculizan dicha gestión se relacionan desde tres dimensiones: la físico-espacial, la territorial y la social. Se concluye que el municipio presenta dificultades en la planificación y el ordenamiento de su territorio, relacionadas con inadecuadas prácticas urbanas, deficiencias de control, vacíos normativos, rápido crecimiento urbano y tardía reacción administrativa, así como predominio de intereses particulares frente a los colectivos. Todo ello dificulta una gestión territorial con perspectiva al desarrollo sostenible.
