Este artículo se propone realizar un aporte a los estudios urbanos desde la comunicación. En primer lugar, fundamentaremos por qué este campo del saber es significativo para analizar los procesos urbanos actuales. Luego, abordaremos de forma breve los conceptos de hábitat y habitar, para finalmente indagar, a partir de un estudio de caso, cómo las transformaciones sociourbanas inciden en los modos de apropiarse y dotar de sentidos a los territorios. Específicamente, analizaremos las formas en que las inundaciones del 2 de abril de 2013 acaecidas en La Plata (Argentina) y la consecuente relocalización de un asentamiento, modificaron las maneras de habitar de sus vecinos/as.
