Mediante el análisis del desempeño relacional de dos instrumentos gubernamentales utilizados en Chile para consignar datos sobre las edificaciones de obra nueva, se exploran las operaciones de inscripción y cálculo que despliegan y los órdenes de sentido que articulan sobre la materialidad urbana. A partir de ello, el texto discute que su observación empírica está incidida por las comunidades de prácticas a las que se vinculan en sus situaciones de diseño y aplicación, y propone que, tanto sus prácticas de levantamiento de datos como las narrativas sobre la materialidad que emergen de éstos, expresan una objetividad situada en esa red de relaciones.
