On the basis of information drawn from the Ennvih 2002 survey, the article concludes that marginal spending on children’s food, health and education is greater in households that receive some type of transfer than in those that do not. This pattern of consumption is mainly due to their specific characteristics, rather than to the transfers themselves. |

Son escasos los estudios sobre el destino de las transferencias privadas inter-vivos. En este artículo se compara la propensión marginal a consumir en diferentes rubros de gastos (incluyendo educación y salud) de los hogares que reciben transferencias privadas, con la de los hogares que no las reciben. La información proviene de la encuesta Ennvih 2002. Se concluye que el gasto marginal en alimentación, salud y educación de los niños es mayor en los hogares que reciben algún tipo de transferencia que en los que no la reciben. Dicho patrón de consumo se debe principalmente a sus características específicas, y no a las transferencias mismas.
