| description | Towards the end of the 20th century, changes in demographic dynamics led to a new system for the quantitative and social reproduction of society. By this the author means the changes in the demographic structure resulting from the population's aging process, as well as the emergence of various problems linked to gender, intergenerational and ethnic relations among others, which, in the framework of economic and cultural globalization, appear to involve the world population as a whole. In this respect, this article presents a conceptual review of demographic discourse in modern society, in the light of the theoretical and methodological challenges raised in the demographic structure on the threshold of the information era. |

In this respect, this article presents a conceptual review of demographic discourse in modern society, in the light of the theoretical and methodological challenges raised in the demographic structure on the threshold of the information era. El envejecimiento de la población ha suscitado un creciente interés, especialmente la estimación de sus dimensiones cuantitativas, sus impactos sociales y las cargas económicas que de él derivan. Sin embargo, menor atención han recibido los desafíos conceptuales y metodológicos que este cambio demográfico plantea, especialmente en el marco de las transformaciones estructurales que caracterizan a las sociedades contemporáneas. En este sentido, en este artículo se presenta una revisión conceptual del discurso demográfico en la sociedad moderna. La tesis sustenta que el envejecimiento inaugura un nuevo régimen demográfico, en el cual el problema de la población habrá de trasladarse de la preocupación por la dinámica del crecimiento a la cuestión de la estructuración social de las diferencias y desigualdades demográficas.
