| description | The article begins by analyzing the dynamics of regional inequalities in the total GDP in Mexico from 1970-1990, in order to determine whether during the 1990s, which were marked by Mexico's openness to international trade, there were significant modifications in the territorial organization of economic activities characterized by the preeminence of Mexico City. It then studies the regional growth of the urban population between 1970 and 1995 and its distribution by size of city. Thirdly, it reviews the urban and regional policies of federal government during the 1990s to clarify the status of policies involving the deconcentration of economic activities and the population in national territory. It concludes that the urban laissez-faire policies implemented by federal and state governments, together with the globalization of the economy, will promote polycentric concentration in two or three cities, dominated by the megalopolis in the center of the country. |

El artículo analiza, en primer lugar, la dinámica de las desigualdades regionales del PIB total en México entre 1970-1990, intentando determinar si en la década de los noventa, caracterizada por la apertura del país al comercio internacional, existen modificaciones significativas en la organización territorial de las actividades económicas caracterizada por la preeminencia de la Ciudad de México. En segundo lugar, se estudia el crecimiento regional de la población urbana entre 1970-1995, así como su distribución por tamaño de ciudades. En tercer lugar, se revisan las políticas urbanas y regionales del gobierno federal en los años noventa, para aclarar la situación de las políticas de desconcentración de las actividades económicas y la población en el territorio nacional. Se concluye que el laissez-faire urbano implantado por los gobiernos federal y de los estados de la República, combinado con la globalización de la economía, promoverá la concentración policéntrica en dos o tres ciudades, bajo el dominio de la megalópolis del centro del país.
